Olwen and James Berkshire wedding

We travelled all the way to Berkshire (about 30 minutes) for Olwen and James Kintbury wedding. They were married at St. Mary’s in Kintbury followed by a laid back wedding reception at – well we can’t say as the venue don’t want any publicity – somewhere in Berkshire. We were the wedding photographers for Ceri and Debs’ wedding at Grittleton House  in 2014. Olwen and James were guests and loved the photos so they booked us. We get a lot of recommendations which is fantastic as it must mean we are doing a good job. Here’s their story –

The proposal

James had planned a romantic bike ride through the vineyards of Epernay in the Champagne region of France. It should have ended with a quiet proposal as the sun set. However, a slight detour, onto a busy road heading uphill at rush hour, on the outskirts of the town, led to Olwen declaring that she wasn’t having any fun and wanted to go back to the hotel. The proposal happened later that night, in the hotel room and was toasted with a bottle of champagne drank from plastic cups sitting on the hotel room bed.

Olwen grew up in Kintbury and her parents still live there. They fell in love with <<venue>> and in particular having the <<plants on sticks>> in front of it, which felt appropriate given the proposal story. They wanted a relaxed, fun atmosphere with friends and family and that’s exactly what happened. There was even a fly past by the Red Arrows as everyone entered the wedding breakfast.

The details

Olwen found the perfect dress, on her first day of looking, in the nearest town.  For James and the boys – royal blue three piece suits, brown shoes, light blue floral ties, white pocket hankies and silver tie clips for the ushers, with the addition of a pocket watch for the best man and groom. Sky blue dresses and white belts for the bridesmaids. The Mother of the Bride was the amazing florist. even more amazing since it’s a hobby not a profession. The beautiful vintage 1937 Riley Lynx wedding car was supplied and driven by Kintbury wedding cars One of Olwen’s oldest friends provided the catering – Catering by Charlotte Anne “Amazing food and amazing staff – couldn’t thank them enough.” The cake wasn’t a cake at all it was a huge pile of brownies. The night’s entertainment was provided by the Party Up Band

I want to make a special mention of the vicar who was totally lovely. When I arrived she took the time to show me around the church and explain where everything would take place. She also let me move around to get the best shots. Of course we always try to be sympathetic and stay unnoticed but it’s really great when you have a vicar who allows you some freedom. Thank you for that.

The wedding photography

“Kevin and Carol are fantastic at blending into the crowd and subtly capturing the story of your wedding day with a collection of natural and authentic photographs. At the same time they have a great eye for a more ‘staged’ photo when the right moment comes but are totally flexible to what you want to do throughout the day. Highly recommended.”
